The First of Many

So in all honesty, this isn't my first online dating encounter. Though this date single-handedly made me consider blogging about all my experiences.

He was normal enough. My height requirements were met (at least 5'10). Grammar and spelling were on point through the messages. Loves to travel (my #1 requirement). Financially secure. Loves food, loves dogs, loves life!  Great conversation on text. And good timing on setting up a date. If I talk or text longer than a week without a set date, I get bored and stop responding.

And so the date came. He looked like his photos and he didn't lie about his height. He even managed to snag two stools for us at the bar. All bonus points! It was a casual bar in lower Manhattan. We talked for hours sharing all our adventures and travel stories. And of course, had drinks to match. Conversation was fun and I was actually very happy I had found him. He gave many compliments, including one I hated to hear: That he thinks I am the hottest girl in the bar and that any guy would be lucky to have me. I hate it because it's the most generic thing a guy can say, but I took it graciously and thanked him.

We headed to another bar. One that specialized in vodka since he noticed that was my drink of choice.  He showed me a new vodka I'd never tried before. I liked him more. We made friends with other bar-goers. We were a hit together. Then the dreadful compliment again: He now thinks I can have any guy in the bar. At this point, he's had a lot to drink, as did I. I let it slide a few more times before it started to get annoying. Just how many times does he want to highlight his insecurities with me? He's just a few words short of saying: Why are you with me?

We finally leave the second bar. I was still on high spirits and thought this was the end of the date. Nope. He ushered me into another bar across the street. But not before stealing a kiss while crossing.

I was right. The date should've ended then and there. It was now 5 hours and 8 drinks in since we met up. I tried to have one more at this bar but he drunkenly pushes my drink over twice. And then the dreadful statement yet again. "You can be with anyyy guy here. They would alll be so lucky to have you." I tried to step it up a bit and said, "Yes, but I'm here with you. Who cares about them?"

NOPE. He wouldn't let it go. So I grabbed my purse, threw his coat at him and ran. Out of the bar and straight into a cab.

You had all the makings of my dream guy. Man up!

The Reason Why

I am a 30 year old woman living in NYC.  I have recently become single and like many girls my age, I am looking for the tall, dark, and handsome stranger to spend the rest of my life with.

However, life may have other plans for me.

You see, I've been a serial monogamist since the beginning of my dating life. I've always loved being in relationships and in love. Finding a boyfriend was never much work... until now. At this age, I've become a bit pickier, choosier, just more discerning in general.

With my impending move to LA later on this year, I decided to throw in the towel. Why not just have fun with dating for once? If anything, maybe I'll meet a new friend, see a new bar, learn something new.

I've decided to let my guard down. And set out onto multiple online dating sites. Here goes...
